T.R. İstanbul University
Istanbul University (Turkish: İstanbul Üniversitesi) is Turkey's oldest and one of the oldest state research universities located in Istanbul.
One day after the conquest of Constantinople by the Turks, Istanbul University was established on May 30, 1453, by Fatih Sultan Mehmed and re-established in 1846 as the first institution of higher education based on the European experience in the Ottoman Empire. Operating under its current name since 1933, the institution is the first higher education institution in modern Turkey. It currently educates 68,300 students at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels in 33 academic units, including faculties, institutes, colleges, and vocational schools, located in 10 main and smaller campuses.
