Master's programs of the Faculty of Philology at Baku State University (BSU): the faculty awards master's degrees in the specializations of Azerbaijani language and literature, Turkology, general linguistics, Russian, English, German and French philology, world literature and language teaching; for Turkish students the fields of Turkology and Azerbaijani literature are of particular importance.
Baku State University (BDU), founded in 1919, is Azerbaijan's first university: 16 faculties, 127 departments, 197 master's and 70 PhD specializations, more than 30 research laboratories, and research institutes of Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, Genetics and Nanotechnology. It is ranked 688th in the QS World University Rankings 2026, first in Azerbaijan and the leader in the South Caucasus; it cooperates with METU, Moscow State, Indiana and Vienna universities.
Admission requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a transcript; for international students, a document review and an interview replace the entrance exam. The program lasts 2 years (4 semesters, 120 ECTS) and is completed with a coursework period, research practice and the defense of a thesis (magistr dissertation). The language of instruction can be English, Azerbaijani or Russian. This program is a faculty umbrella: applicants choose one of the faculty's specializations (ixtisaslaşma) when applying.

The first year covers compulsory and elective subject courses, research methods and a seminar; the second year covers specialization courses, pedagogical/research practice and thesis work.
