The Social Work program at Mingachevir State University (MDU) is offered within the Faculty of Pedagogy (teacher training, philology, history and social work programs). It trains specialists in social work with individuals, families and communities.
Mingachevir State University (MDU) was founded in 1991 as the Mingachevir branch of the Azerbaijan Industrial University, was renamed Mingachevir Energy Institute in 1992 and Polytechnic Institute in 1993, and became a state university by presidential decree on 24 July 2015. Mingachevir, on the banks of the Kura River, is an energy city that is home to the largest hydroelectric power plant in the South Caucasus and the largest reservoir in Azerbaijan; the university's energy and engineering tradition is linked to this plant and to the Mingachevir Industrial Park. It runs 10 departments with 24 bachelor's and 14 master's specializations in 3 faculties (Engineering; Economics and Management; Pedagogy), and has about 10,000 students and more than 300 staff, 195 of whom are academic staff. Under Erasmus+ it cooperates with universities in Türkiye, Germany, Lithuania, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Romania. Its annual fees are among the lowest in Azerbaijan (about $1,058 for a bachelor's degree), and the cost of living in Mingachevir is about half that of Baku; the city is 300 km from Baku and 100 km from Ganja.
No entrance exam score is required for admission; applicants apply with a high school diploma and transcript. The program lasts 4 years (8 semesters, 240 ECTS) and ends with a bachelor's (bakalavr) diploma; instruction is in Azerbaijani. Students whose language level is not sufficient are enrolled in a 1-year preparatory course.

The first 2 years cover the core courses of the field; years 3 and 4 cover specialization courses, practical training, an internship and the graduation thesis.
