Ganja State University — what is taught, how the program progresses, what graduates become
The Philology (Language and Literature) program at Ganja State University (GSU) is offered within the Faculty of Philology. It is a philology program focused on Azerbaijani language and literature; in the city of Nizami Ganjavi, classical literature and Turkology are its distinctive content.
Ganja State University (GDU) was founded in 1938 as a two-year Teachers' Institute, was renamed Hasan Bey Zardabi Pedagogical Institute in 1943 and Ganja State Pedagogical Institute in 1989, and became a state university by decree of Heydar Aliyev in 2000. Ganja, Azerbaijan's second-largest city and the birthplace of Nizami Ganjavi, is 360 km from Baku and closer to the Turkish border than Baku is. It is a member of the Caucasus University Association and runs Mevlana exchanges with universities in Türkiye. Its annual fee (about $589) is the lowest university fee in Azerbaijan, and the cost of living in Ganja is about half that of Baku.

The program lasts 4 years (8 semesters, 240 ECTS) and ends with a bachelor's (bakalavr) diploma; instruction is in Azerbaijani.
